Narendra Modi listed as freedom fighter in exam guide
A controversy has emerged regarding a competitive examination study guide titled ‘Shivant Sir’ that lists Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi among the nation’s freedom fighters. The book, which is a private Static GK resource intended for students preparing for competitive tests, includes Modi alongside historical figures such as Mahatma Gandhi, Subhas Chandra Bose, and Bhagat Singh.
The material, which gained attention after a video of the text went viral on social media, also features political slogans associated with the Prime Minister, such as ‘Main bhi chowkidar’. Critics have accused the publication of misrepresenting history and using educational materials to push a political agenda or create a personality cult.
Observers noted that Modi was born in 1950, three years after India gained independence from British rule. While some social media users have criticized the content as political propaganda, others have argued that because the guide is a private coaching resource and not an official textbook from the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) or a government agency, the responsibility for factual errors lies with the publisher.
