9/11 attacks: PM Modi and US leaders mark 25th anniversary

As the world marks the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, leaders and officials have issued tributes to the victims and reaffirmed commitments to counter-terrorism.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to the 2,977 people killed in the al-Qaeda attacks, expressing solidarity with the affected families. He emphasized that India, as a long-term victim of cross-border terrorism, remains steadfast in its opposition to all forms of terrorism despite its evolving nature. In a related reflection, Modi also recalled Swami Vivekananda’s 1893 speech in Chicago, noting its message of religious tolerance and universal acceptance.

In the United States, President Donald Trump issued a proclamation declaring the day Patriot Day, calling on the nation to renew its vow to ‘Never Forget’ the events of that day. US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor also expressed the nation's resolve to stand against terrorism. The anniversary is being observed globally through memorial ceremonies, vigils, and moments of silence.
