India hosts SEMICON India 2026 to advance semiconductor ecosystem
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated SEMICON India 2026 in New Delhi, a three-day event held from September 17 to 19 at Yashobhoomi. The conference, themed ‘Silicon to Systems: Building the Ecosystem’, aims to showcase India’s expanding capabilities across the semiconductor and electronics value chain, including chip design, manufacturing, and advanced packaging.
The event features over 600 exhibitors, including approximately 300 international companies, and is expected to attract 50,000 visitors. Participants include representatives from 52 countries, industry executives, researchers, and startups. The initiative is supported by the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), and SEMI.
During the event, the Prime Minister emphasized India's potential as a reliable global semiconductor manufacturing hub. He highlighted the transition from basic preparations to large-scale expansion and noted that commercial production has already begun in Mohali and Surat. Additionally, the government is advancing ‘Semicon 2.0’, a strategic phase focused on six pillars: design, machinery and materials, fab establishment, ATMP/OSAT strengthening, R&D, and talent development.
Notable industry participation includes high-level discussions with CEOs from companies such as Micron, Intel, AMD, ASML, and Tata Electronics. Furthermore, Infineon and NIELIT have launched a semiconductor manufacturing Centre of Excellence in Ahmedabad to provide hands-on training for the workforce.
