Narendra Modi urges support for local artisans during festive season
During the 139th edition of his monthly radio programme, Mann Ki Baat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called on citizens to prioritize products made by local artisans during festive shopping. He stated that consumer support would strengthen the ‘Vocal for Local’ campaign and accelerate India’s progress toward self-reliance.
Modi noted that Indian products are increasingly reaching international markets, citing examples such as makhana from Bihar being exported to Greece and arhar dal from Karnataka reaching the Maldives. He also emphasized the necessity of improved packaging to help local products compete and attract consumers.
The Prime Minister highlighted various regional initiatives, including the Kheti Virasat Mission in Punjab’s Malwa region, which promotes organic farming and natural cotton cultivation. He also commended community-led environmental efforts in Uttarakhand’s Tehri Garhwal district, where rainwater harvesting and tree plantation have helped rejuvenate the Heval river and local water sources.
