Narendra Modi video claim of anthem disrespect found to be edited

A viral video circulating on social media, which claims to show Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi disrespecting the national anthem, has been identified as edited. The footage depicts the Prime Minister walking and greeting people while the national anthem appears to be playing in the background.

Investigation of the footage reveals that the audio was added externally. Original recordings from the Prime Minister’s official YouTube channel and government livestreams from June 2025 show that the national anthem was not playing during the event in Siwan, Bihar. Instead, the original audio contains an announcement welcoming the Prime Minister as he arrived on stage to inaugurate development projects.
