Narin Güran family intensifies justice campaign against Turkish authorities

The family of Narin Güran, a girl killed on 21 August in Diyarbakır’s Tavşantepe neighbourhood, has ramped up calls for a new investigation and accountability. Baran Güran, the victim’s brother, said the family has been unfairly portrayed in the media and that the case has become a “social disaster,” with children bearing the Güran surname now barred from schools.

Lawyer Levent Mazılıgüney denounced the proceedings as a fabricated “narrow‑base” verdict and urged the Constitutional Court to examine the file and issue a violation ruling, followed by a fair retrial. Journalist Hilal Seven, who has reported on the case, criticized the lack of awareness among prosecutors and the Justice Ministry, accusing officials of covering up the truth. Father Arif Güran accused the Interior Minister, the Justice Minister and three prosecutors of obstructing justice and alleged that his wife was tortured for six days in a police station after the funeral.

The family’s platform, operating from Ankara’s Ulus Square, demands the reopening of the investigation, identification of the perpetrators, and appropriate sentencing, pressing both the Justice and Interior ministries for action.
