Nariño authorities rescue mountain nightjar in La Florida

Authorities in Nariño, Colombia, rescued a mountain nightjar (chotacabras serrano) in the municipality of La Florida following reports from local residents. The operation was carried out by the Carabineros and Environmental Protection Section of the Nariño Police in coordination with the Fire Department.

The rescue aimed to protect the nocturnal bird from illegal capture, trafficking, or commercialization. The specimen was transported to the Corponariño transit home in Ipiales, where it will undergo veterinary assessment and specialized rehabilitation.

Officials emphasized the importance of citizen alerts in protecting biodiversity and reminded the public not to capture, transport, or keep wild animals as pets.
