Nariño budget facing significant reduction in regionalized investment

The Nariño department in Colombia is facing a significant debate regarding the reduction of regionalized investment funds. Data from the National Planning Department (DNP) indicates that regionalized investment for Nariño is projected to decrease from 3.209 trillion pesos in 2024 to 2.882 trillion pesos in 2025, and further down to 2.854 trillion pesos in 2026. This represents a cumulative reduction of approximately 355 billion pesos compared to 2024 levels.

Political leaders from the Pacto Histórico have expressed indignation over these cuts, citing urgent needs in infrastructure, connectivity, health, education, rural development, and security. However, the situation has sparked criticism regarding political consistency. Observers note that despite Nariño providing strong electoral support to the government of Gustavo Petro, this political alignment did not result in increased regional resources.

In response to the budget concerns, Senator Liliana Benavides has proposed an initiative to foster a unified parliamentary bloc for Nariño to defend the department's interests more effectively.
