Nariño communities present needs to Colombian Ombudsman
The Colombian Ombudsman's Office (Defensoría del Pueblo) conducted field visits in the Nariño department to address the needs of local communities and peace signatories. In Tumaco, at the La Variante reintegration space, officials discussed concerns regarding housing, security, essential services, and the sustainability of the reintegration process.
In Mosquera, the agency provided legal orientation to community leaders, held sessions on preventing gender-based violence, and worked with municipal officials to improve institutional coordination. The visit also included an inspection of an open-air landfill affecting the local population.
Additionally, in the Pasacaballos area of Tumaco, the Defensoría assessed risks posed by coastal erosion and heavy waves, which have damaged infrastructure and livelihoods. The agency has requested information from the Nariño Governor's Office, the Tumaco District Mayor's Office, DIMAR, and the Provincial Prosecutor's Office regarding mitigation and prevention measures for the approximately 87 residents currently at risk.
