Naruto manga to return in 2027 under Masashi Kishimoto

Masashi Kishimoto will return to Weekly Shonen Jump in 2027 to write and illustrate a new Naruto manga series. Announced during the Naruto stage at New York Comic Con 2026, the project is part of an initiative known as ‘Project Rasengan,’ which includes various franchise developments planned through 2030.

The new work is expected to serve as a direct sequel to the original manga, which concluded in 2014. It aims to explore the ‘blank period’—the interval between major events in the original narrative that was not covered in the primary series. While the exact release date remains unconfirmed, teaser materials have already showcased Kishimoto’s initial sketches.

The announcement arrives as Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece continues to lead in global sales, having surpassed 600 million copies. While Naruto has reached over 300 million copies, the return of the series is expected to bolster the franchise's cultural impact and drive interest in both the original series and the anime.
