NASA accelerates Artemis program with new lunar traffic and suit plans

As part of the Artemis program, NASA is implementing new strategic measures to facilitate human return to the Moon. Researchers from NASA, Purdue University, and Texas A&M are developing a traffic management system for cislunar space. This “space highway code” is intended to manage the increasing density of vehicles, including the Orion capsule, logistics modules, and crewed spacecraft, ensuring safety around the upcoming Gateway lunar station.

Simultaneously, NASA has requested its sole supplier, Axiom Space, to simplify the design of future lunar spacesuits. This decision aims to accelerate development and testing timelines to meet mission goals before the end of the decade. By reducing technical complexity, the agency seeks to mitigate risks of delays and secure early missions to the lunar South Pole.
