NASA and SpaceX prepare Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope for August 30 launch

NASA and SpaceX are preparing for the launch of the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope, currently scheduled for August 30 from Launch Complex 39A at the Kennedy Space Center. The mission is running nine months ahead of its original schedule. Engineers have begun integrating the observatory with SpaceX’s Falcon Heavy launch hardware, including the payload adapter and specialized strut attachments.

The telescope features a 2.4-meter primary mirror and a Wide Field Instrument capable of observing areas of the sky up to 100 times larger than the Hubble Space Telescope. Utilizing infrared light, the observatory is designed to study dark energy, dark matter, and exoplanets. Once in orbit, it will be positioned at the Sun-Earth Lagrange Point 2 (L2), located approximately 1.5 million kilometers from Earth, to provide unobstructed views of the universe.
