NASA appoints Joseph R. Schuyler as Stennis Space Center deputy director

NASA has appointed Joseph R. Schuyler as the new deputy director of the Stennis Space Center near Bay St. Louis, Mississippi. Schuyler succeeds Christine Powell, who was recently promoted to director of the center.

In his new role, Schuyler will assist in managing the center’s primary rocket propulsion testing capabilities. These facilities are critical for providing engine data and verified operational procedures for NASA missions, including the RS-25 engines used in the Artemis moon missions. Additionally, he will oversee a multi-agency federal network consisting of more than 50 resident agencies at the site.

Schuyler has been a civil servant at Stennis since 2010. He previously served as the director of the Engineering and Test Directorate, where he managed major lines of business in propulsion testing and space technology. His background includes experience in the United States Marine Corps and various leadership roles within NASA’s systems engineering departments.
