NASA commits to open science and data sharing via Artemis Accords

NASA has committed to sharing all science produced through its Artemis program, including Moon rock samples and lunar datasets, with the global scientific community. This commitment is supported by the 71 countries that have signed the Artemis Accords, a framework designed to ensure safe and transparent civil space exploration.

To implement these principles, NASA recently concluded a two-part virtual workshop series focused on the timely release of scientific data. The workshops aimed to promote interoperability, collaboration, and reproducibility among signatories. These efforts follow previous discussions led by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) regarding open data practices. NASA intends to provide tools and working models to help partners build their own data-sharing frameworks, facilitating a deeper understanding of lunar processes and future exploration of Mars.
