NASA Curiosity rover captures clearest video from Mars surface

NASA has released the clearest video ever recorded from the surface of Mars, captured by the Curiosity rover. The footage provides a highly detailed view of the Red Planet, showcasing rocky terrain, sand ripples, and distant hills.

On August 26, 2026, the Curiosity rover reached a significant milestone in its 14-year mission by completing a one-kilometer ascent from Gale Crater toward the slopes of Mount Sharp. The panoramic view was captured on August 1 and 2, 2026, during the mission's 4,972nd and 4,973rd Martian days, or 'sols'.

The panorama was created by synthesizing 323 individual images taken by the rover's Mastcam camera. Colors were adjusted to approximate how the lighting would appear to the human eye on Earth. The view, taken from a wide valley nicknamed 'Valle Grande', looks down toward the floor of Gale Crater and the 5-kilometer-high Mount Sharp.

Additionally, the rover has recently captured images of unusual honeycomb-like structures on the surface. These polygonal cracks are currently being studied by scientists to determine their formation process.
