NASA expands NASA+ streaming to discovery+ and HBO Max
NASA has announced an expansion of its NASA+ streaming platform through new distribution agreements with discovery+ and HBO Max. The partnership will feature a continuous live channel on discovery+, while HBO Max will broadcast special NASA events, including the Artemis III mission scheduled for 2027.
Technical infrastructure will support content in Dolby Vision format on compatible devices, providing enhanced contrast and color detail. Future programming is set to cover scientific launches, lunar landing system tests, robotic lunar deliveries, and initial crewed missions. While these commercial services will host expanded content, the primary NASA+ service will remain free and ad-free via the agency’s official website and dedicated application.
Rebecca Sirmons, general manager of NASA+, stated that the initiative fulfills the mandate of the National Aeronautics and Space Act of 1958 to share space exploration history with the widest possible audience. The move aligns with the agency’s Ignition program, which aims to increase the frequency of lunar missions and support the eventual construction of a lunar base.
