NASA Opens Media Accreditation for Roman Space Telescope Launch on Aug. 30

NASA announced the opening of media accreditation for the upcoming launch of the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope, scheduled for no earlier than 7:20 a.m. Eastern Time on August 30. The launch will occur from Launch Complex 39A at Kennedy Space Center, Florida, using a SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket.

International media outlets without U.S. citizenship must submit accreditation requests by 11:59 p.m. on July 26, while U.S. media and U.S. citizens representing international organizations have until 11:59 p.m. on July 30. Applications are filed through NASA’s online credentialing portal.

The Roman telescope, named after NASA’s first chief astronomer, will operate in the near‑infrared with a wide‑field instrument that captures images covering an area a hundred times larger than Hubble per exposure. It is designed to map dark matter, investigate dark energy, and detect exoplanets via microlensing. NASA also opened accreditation for the SpaceX Crew‑13 mission to the International Space Station.
