NASA Spirit rover images of Mars 'walker' resurface
Images of an object on Mars that resembles a human figure have resurfaced on social media, sparking renewed public interest. The object, which appears to be crouching or walking among rocks, has been dubbed the ‘Mars walker’ by online observers.
Scientific analysis clarifies that this is not a recent discovery. The image was originally captured in 2007 by NASA’s Spirit rover. This phenomenon follows a historical pattern of similar debates, such as the 1976 Viking 1 images of a hill in the Cydonia region that appeared to resemble a human face. In that instance, higher-resolution imagery later confirmed the feature was simply a natural hill shaped by wind erosion, with shadows creating the illusion of facial features.
Experts note that these visual anomalies are typically the result of light and shadow interacting with natural terrain rather than evidence of extraterrestrial life.
