NASA Voyager 1 to reach one light-day from Earth in November

NASA's Voyager 1 spacecraft is projected to reach a distance of one light-day from Earth on November 18. This milestone makes it the first human-made object to achieve such a distance, meaning radio signals sent from the probe will take more than 24 hours to reach Earth receptors.

Launched in the late 1970s, the probe has been traveling through space for nearly five decades. While it is approaching the one light-day mark from Earth, it is currently closer to the Sun than to our planet due to Earth's current orbital position. It is estimated to take an additional two months for the spacecraft to reach a distance of one light-day from the Sun.

Voyager 1 entered interstellar space in 2012. Throughout its mission, it has provided significant scientific data, including observations of volcanic activity on Io, the subsurface ocean on Europa, and the characteristics of Saturn's moons. The probe remains active and continues to transmit scientific data regarding the density of the interstellar medium.
