Nasarawa First Lady urges female journalists to uphold professional ethics

The First Lady of Nasarawa State, Hajiya Silifat Abdullahi Sule, has called on female journalists to maintain professional ethics to foster the growth and development of the state. Speaking at an event in Lafia marking the one-year anniversary of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) executive committee, she also noted the unveiling of the ‘Compendium of Nasarawa Amazons’.

Represented by the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Nasarawa State Council, Comrade Juliana Ofoku, the First Lady emphasized the importance of preserving cultural heritage and honoring excellence to inspire future generations. Upon receiving a recognition award, Hajiya Sule dedicated the honor to the women of Nasarawa State and pledged her continued support as Patron of NAWOJ.

NAWOJ State Chairperson Comrade Mercy Tanze-Zabadi expressed gratitude for the state government’s support and highlighted the responsibility of women journalists to defend human rights and promote good governance. She also requested assistance for infrastructure upgrades and capacity-building programs. Additionally, former chairperson Veronica Ogbole delivered a keynote address on the role of women journalists in strengthening democracy and sustainable development, urging members to embrace digital tools and mentorship.
