Nasarawa Police warn against planned women's protest in Lafia

The Nasarawa State Police Command has issued a warning against a planned protest scheduled for August 17 in Lafia, the state capital. The demonstration is reportedly organized by a group known as Concerned Women in Politics, Lafia Local Government.

The group has called for approximately 10,000 women to take to the streets to protest what they describe as the arbitrary arrest and illegal detention of suspected followers of retired Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu.

Commissioner of Police Shettima Jauro Mohammed acknowledged the citizens' right to express grievances through lawful means but cautioned against the street protest due to the fragile security situation in Lafia. The command warned that such gatherings could be hijacked by miscreants, disrupt socio-economic activities, and threaten public peace. Police officials urged organizers to use dialogue and other legitimate channels to seek redress instead of street demonstrations.
