Nasarawa State Assembly investigates multiple taxation

The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has established an ad hoc committee to investigate reports of multiple taxation and overlapping revenue collection. The investigation follows concerns raised by Hon. Daniel Oga Ogazi regarding the financial pressure placed on businesses and residents by redundant tax demands.

One reported case involved a private school proprietor facing as many as 23 different taxes. In response, Speaker Danladi Jatau constituted the committee to determine the number of revenue consultants operating in the state and to evaluate the implementation of the State Revenue Harmonisation Law.

The committee, chaired by Hon. Hudu A. Hudu, is also tasked with investigating revenue collection in the Mararaba axis of Karu Local Government Area to determine if businesses in border regions are being taxed by multiple jurisdictions. The committee is expected to submit its findings within two weeks.
