Nasarawa State marks 30th anniversary with week-long celebrations

Nasarawa State is launching a week-long celebration to mark its 30th anniversary since being created from Plateau State in 1996. The festivities, which begin this Friday and run through October 1, include various religious, social, and community events.

Key highlights of the program include a keynote address by former INEC chairman Attahiru Jega regarding the state's transformation, and a presentation by Catholic Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah on unity and diversity. The schedule features project commissions across 13 local government areas, an interdenominational service in Lafia, and a novelty football match between Nasarawa and Plateau state officials intended to promote regional unity.

Deputy Governor Emmanuel Akabe noted that the celebration honors the resilience and contributions of the state's citizens, including traditional rulers, women, and youth. He also acknowledged current economic hardships facing residents, stating the government is working to alleviate these difficulties.
