Nasarawa transmission tower collapse disrupts power supply
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) reported that the collapse of three transmission towers has disrupted bulk electricity supply to the Keffi and Akwanga areas of Nasarawa State. The incident occurred on Wednesday during rainy and windy conditions along the Karu-Keffi-Akwanga 132kV transmission line corridor.
Specifically, towers T78, T79, and T80 collapsed, causing the 132kV single circuit transmission line to trip on overcurrent relay protection. As a safety precaution, engineers isolated the affected section of the line. This has rendered all 33kV outgoing feeders at the Keffi and Akwanga transmission substations unavailable, meaning electricity distribution companies cannot nominate load on these feeders until repairs are completed.
TCN engineers have been deployed to the site to assess the damage and determine the requirements for restoration work. While no specific timeline for repairs has been provided, the company apologized to affected customers and stated that efforts are underway to restore bulk power supply as quickly as possible.
