NASA's Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope Launch Set for August 2026

NASA’s next flagship astrophysics mission, the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope, is scheduled to launch on August 30, 2026 aboard a SpaceX Falcon Heavy from Launch Complex 39A at Kennedy Space Center, Florida. The observatory will survey distant galaxies, investigate dark energy, and directly image exoplanets with a field of view 100 times larger than the Hubble Space Telescope.

The agency is running a public outreach program that lets individuals submit their names to be uploaded onto a secure digital card attached to the telescope, with submissions closing on July 12. In parallel, NASA is offering a two‑day NASA Social experience for up to 50 digital creators, who can tour the launch site, meet astrophysics experts, and livestream the launch. Registration opens June 15 and closes June 28, with eligibility limited to active social‑media users who can reach large audiences.
