NASA's Roman Space Telescope arrives at Kennedy Space Center ahead of 2026 launch

NASA's Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope was delivered to the Kennedy Space Center in Florida on June 21, 2026. The spacecraft was shipped in a climate‑controlled container to Baltimore, then moved to Cape Canaveral aboard the Pegasus barge before being unloaded and transferred to the agency’s Payload Hazardous Servicing Facility.

Over the coming weeks technicians will conduct a series of checks, including testing the six solar panels, inspecting thermal blankets, and loading roughly 290 gallons of hydrazine fuel. The telescope is slated for launch in late summer 2026 – early as September or by August 30 – and will operate from the Sun‑Earth L2 point.

With a 2.4‑meter primary mirror and a field of view more than 100 times that of Hubble, Roman will conduct wide‑field surveys to map billions of galaxies, investigate dark matter and dark energy, and detect over 100,000 exoplanets using its coronagraph and spectrographs. The mission aims to refine measurements of cosmic expansion and advance the search for habitable worlds.
