NASCAR declines to penalize William Sawalich after collision with Corey Day

NASCAR has declined to issue a penalty to William Sawalich following an incident at World Wide Technology Raceway involving Corey Day. During the race, Sawalich side-slammed Day, causing Day to collide with Justin Allgaier and hit the inside wall.

The incident follows a previous encounter between the two drivers at Darlington Raceway. NASCAR Cup Series driver Denny Hamlin, who also drives for Joe Gibbs Racing like Sawalich, advocated against a penalty, suggesting that the garage has a long history of self-policing and that Day’s driving contributed to the situation.

By not issuing sanctions, NASCAR appears to be allowing drivers to manage on-track tensions themselves, signaling that retaliation may be permitted within the National Series.
