NASCAR to build 80 cars for Tom Cruise ‘Days of Thunder’ sequel

NASCAR is collaborating on the production of a sequel to the 1990 film ‘Days of Thunder’, starring Tom Cruise and Anne Hathaway. To ensure authenticity for the project, which is slated for a June 2028 release, NASCAR is reportedly building more than 80 cars for the film.

NASCAR CEO Steve O’Donnell revealed that Cruise has expressed interest in competing in a legitimate ARCA Menards Series race to enhance the film's realism. While O’Donnell noted the actor's desire to get behind the wheel, he expressed uncertainty regarding whether such a feat is possible given Cruise's lack of prior motorsports racing experience.

The production draws parallels to the original film, which involved a partnership with Hendrick Motorsports. The sequel is produced by Jonathan Levine with a script by Will Staples.
