NASCAR to race in Joliet instead of downtown Chicago in 2027

NASCAR has announced that it will not return to the streets of downtown Chicago for a race in 2027. Instead, the NASCAR Cup Series will return to the Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet, Illinois, for the Fourth of July weekend, scheduled for June 25-27, 2027.

The decision follows negotiations between NASCAR, the City of Chicago, and the State of Illinois. While officials expressed optimism about returning to a street course in Grant Park, talks reportedly reached an impasse regarding costs and state contributions.

The 2027 weekend at Chicagoland Speedway will include the ARCA Menards Series on Friday, the NASCAR Xfinity Series on Saturday, and the NASCAR Cup Series on Sunday. NASCAR officials stated they remain committed to the Chicagoland region and may seek to bring the Chicago Street Race back in the future.
