NASDAQ indices face volatility amid Fed signals and SpaceX weighting shifts

The NASDAQ indices experienced volatility and downward pressure during recent trading sessions. The NASDAQ Composite and NASDAQ 100 saw declines, influenced by concerns over US labor market strength and potential interest rate trajectories. While a stronger-than-expected US jobs report initially sparked fears of prolonged high interest rates, comments from Federal Reserve Governor Christopher Waller provided some stability by signaling patience regarding future rate hikes.

Separately, SpaceX is positioned for a potential increase in its NASDAQ-100 weighting. Following the expiration of shareholder holding periods, the company's free float is expected to rise from under 10 percent to nearly 30 percent. Analysts at JPMorgan estimate that this adjustment could trigger approximately $12.4 billion in net purchases from index funds and ETFs as the company's weight in the index potentially climbs to 1.51 percent.

Amidst these shifts, NVIDIA remains the largest company by market capitalization within the index, while SpaceX has recently recorded the highest trading volumes.
