Naser Ziberi criticizes Trajanov's initiative on 2001 conflict amnesty

Legal expert and former Ombudsman Naser Ziberi has criticized an initiative by LD leader Pavle Trajanov to challenge the interpretation of the Amnesty Law in the Constitutional Court. Trajanov seeks to annul the authentic interpretation of Article 1 of the law, which would potentially allow suspects in five cases related to the 2001 conflict in Macedonia to face prosecution for war crimes, despite a lack of evidence in those specific instances.

Ziberi argues that accepting this initiative would constitute a serious violation of the principles established by the 2001 Ohrid Agreement and would undermine the authority of the International Criminal Tribunal. He urged the Constitutional Court to maintain its previous stances from 2003, 2007, and 2012 by rejecting the request for re-examination. Additionally, Ziberi called on the government and political parties to oppose the initiative, noting that the Court has requested the government's opinion on the matter.
