Nashik Mayor orders culpable homicide charges after fatal road accidents

A series of fatal road accidents caused by poor road conditions and potholes in Nashik has resulted in at least 12 deaths and over 100 injuries. The incidents, which occurred amidst the Ganesh festival, involved victims falling into deep construction pits, colliding with metal pipes, and being struck by vehicles due to muddy or uneven surfaces.

In response to public outrage and council protests, Nashik Mayor Himgauri Adke has ordered the registration of culpable homicide cases against the primary and sub-contractors responsible for the road maintenance. The Mayor also directed that the educational expenses of the children of deceased victims be recovered from the responsible contractors and instructed that the widow of one victim be provided with a job.

Additionally, the municipal administration is facing scrutiny over corruption allegations involving fake receipt books and irregularities in hoarding and stall permissions. An official from the Nashik Road department has been transferred following the outcry over the death of an MBA student.
