Nashville crime rates fall significantly in 2026
Crime rates in Nashville have seen a significant decline through the first three quarters of 2026. According to data from the Metro Nashville Police Department, homicides recorded through October 3 are down nearly 39 percent compared to the same period last year, a pace comparable to the city’s record low in 2013.
Major violent offenses have decreased by more than 14 percent, while property offenses have dropped by 17 percent. These downward trends in both violent and property crime have continued for several years following the COVID-19 pandemic.
In broader research discussions, Dr. John Lott has addressed crime trends, including the concentration of firearm murders in specific U.S. counties and the fiscal implications of delaying the deportation of noncitizens accused of crimes.
