Former Kaduna Governor Nasir El‑Rufai’s Wives Plead to President Tinubu for Fair Treatment

Wives of former Kaduna State governor Nasir El‑Rufai, led by Hajiya Asiya (also reported as Asia/Asiya), appealed directly to President Bola Tinubu, asking that their husband receive fair bail, access to medical care, lawyers and family visitors while awaiting trial. They reminded the president of their support during his 2023 election campaign and described the restrictions as "psychological warfare" that has left the family traumatised. The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has arrested El‑Rufai’s personal physician, Prof. Bello Abubakar, alleging false statements and breach of a court‑approved medical visit.

Opposition presidential candidate Peter Obi, speaking from the United States, posted on X that the viral video of Asiya’s plea moved him and called for transparent, non‑punitive bail conditions and for the rule of law to protect every citizen, regardless of background. He warned against selective justice that could erode public trust and threaten national unity.
