Nasrin Sotoudeh named finalist for Wasslos Havel Human Rights Prize
Iranian human rights lawyer Nasrin Sotoudeh has been named one of the three final nominees for the 2026 Wasslos Havel Human Rights Prize. The selection recognizes her long-standing efforts to defend human rights, equality, and dignity despite facing significant pressure, threats, and legal restrictions within Iran.
Sotoudeh’s advocacy has extended beyond women's rights to include the defense of children, political prisoners, religious and ethnic minorities, and opponents of the death penalty. The recognition comes at a time when her husband, Reza Khandan, remains imprisoned for his peaceful activism and opposition to repressive policies.
The nomination is viewed as a tribute to civil courage and the broader struggle for human rights and dignity represented by Iranian women.
