Nasser Al-Khelaifi rejects FIFA presidency, proposes new global club body

At the annual European Football Clubs (EFC) meeting in Copenhagen, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, president of Paris Saint-Germain, announced plans to establish a new global organization called ‘World Football Clubs’. This proposed body aims to provide a collective voice for clubs worldwide, potentially acting as a sixth non-official confederation to challenge the current governance of FIFA.

Al-Khelaifi also addressed ongoing speculation regarding his potential candidacy for the FIFA presidency. He categorically rejected any interest in the role, stating, “I have zero interest in the world governing body and zero agenda or ambitions to be there.” This comes amid mounting pressure on current FIFA President Gianni Infantino, who faces criticism over his leadership style and controversial commercial proposals.

UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin expressed strong opposition to Infantino’s management, remarking that “football has no need for emperors.” Meanwhile, Al-Khelaifi urged Ceferin to seek re-election as UEFA President. On the financial front, the EFC noted that its partnership with UEFA is projected to generate over 20 billion euros in revenue over the next four years.

Regarding individual accolades, Al-Khelaifi expressed support for his PSG players—Ousmane Dembélé, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, and Fabián Ruiz—as contenders for the 2026 Ballon d'Or.
