Nasser Al-Khelaïfi under investigation for Ligue 1 rights conflict
Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, president of Paris Saint-Germain and chairman of beIN Media Group, is under preliminary investigation by the Paris prosecutor's office for suspected unlawful conflict of interest. The probe, conducted by the Anti-Corruption Financial Brigade, follows a report by the anti-corruption organization Anticor.
The investigation focuses on Al-Khelaïfi’s involvement in July 2024 negotiations regarding the broadcasting rights for Ligue 1. Authorities are examining whether Al-Khelaïfi used his position on the board of the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) to influence decisions in favor of beIN Sports, which submitted a €100 million offer for weekly match broadcasts.
Anticor alleges that Al-Khelaïfi’s dual roles compromised his impartiality and that he may have pressured other club presidents to support the beIN proposal. Al-Khelaïfi’s legal counsel has rejected the allegations, stating they are “without basis, neither legally nor factually” and asserting that his client has always acted independently and objectively.
