Nassima Ait-Daoud Tiouririne named UVA Psychiatry Chair
The University of Virginia School of Medicine has appointed Nassima Ait-Daoud Tiouririne, MD, as the permanent chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Neurobehavioral Sciences. Dr. Ait-Daoud Tiouririne, a physician-scientist specializing in psychiatry and addiction medicine, officially assumed the role last week after serving as interim chair since September 2025.
Dr. Ait-Daoud Tiouririne has held several leadership positions within UVA Health, including medical director of ambulatory psychiatry and director of the Center for Leading Edge Addiction Recovery (CLEAR). Her research focuses on developing innovative treatments for substance use disorders through neuromodulation, pharmacotherapy, and digital therapeutics.
In her new capacity, she aims to advance patient care, research, and community partnerships while working to build an integrated behavioral health system to improve access to evidence-based care across Virginia.
