Nasu Town to host 21st Nasu Kyubi Festival in September 2026
Nasu Town in Tochigi Prefecture has announced that the 21st Nasu Kyubi Festival will be held on September 27, 2026. The festival is centered around the local legend of the ‘Nine-Tailed Fox’ (Kyubi no Kitsune), which is tied to the Sessho-seki stone in Nasu Yumoto.
According to local lore, the fox disguised itself as a beautiful woman named Tamamo-no-Mae before being defeated and transforming into a large stone. This site is recognized as a national scenic spot and was famously documented by the poet Matsuo Basho.
The event aims to promote regional revitalization and preserve local history. The festival features 95 stalls and performances by nine groups, with an expected attendance of approximately 14,000 people. This year's program includes a comedy stage featuring the duo U-ji Koji.
