Natal, Brazil Implements Major Traffic Reroutes for Caern Sewer Project

The Companhia de Águas e Esgotos do Rio Grande do Norte (Caern) will replace the sanitary sewage network on Rua Coronel Flamínio in Natal, prompting a series of traffic changes. From July 21 until August 7, the STTU will enforce a one‑lane system, reserve the access to Ribeira for buses only, and adjust routes for several lines, notably altering the O‑59 line. Drivers and public‑transport users are advised to reduce speed and follow posted directions.

Separately, on July 16 the STTU organized a rapid‑blockade operation on Avenida Prudente de Morais to clear the way for an ambulance carrying an organ for transplant. The temporary closures between 7:45 a.m. and 8:15 a.m. were intended to ensure the vehicle’s safe passage from the Natal Air Base to Hospital Rio Grande, potentially causing brief traffic delays.

Both measures are coordinated by the municipal mobility authority to minimize disruption while supporting essential services.
