Natal Council Approves Creation of Morro Branco Neighborhood

The Câmara Municipal de Natal voted unanimously on Thursday to officially designate Morro Branco as a new neighborhood within the city. The bill, first introduced in 2012 by former councilor Assis Oliveira, seeks to give legal recognition to a community that already has a distinct identity. The proposal now moves to mayor Paulinho Freire for sanction or veto.

The defined limits set Morro Branco between Avenida Alexandrino de Alencar (north), Avenida Salgado Filho (west), Parque das Dunas (east) and Rua da Saudade (south). Support from residents, local leaders and institutions was cited as a key factor, with the council arguing that the change will simplify the delivery of public services such as education, health, security, infrastructure and traffic management.
