Natal Councilwoman opposes Arsban leadership nomination

Councilwoman Samanda Alves (PT) voted against the nomination of Thiago Mesquita to lead the Natal Basic Sanitation Services Regulatory Agency (Arsban). Alves justified her opposition by citing Mesquita's previous role as the Municipal Secretary of Environment and Urbanism during the Ponta Negra beach nourishment project.

Alves claimed the project suffered from technical issues and failed to respect environmental requirements, stating, “We lost our city's biggest postcard, one of the largest in our state, due to technical problems in the work.” She noted that the project is currently under investigation by competent authorities regarding technical and environmental compliance.
