Natal family seeks justice after 9-year-old dies during surgery

A family in Natal is seeking justice following the death of 9-year-old Renan during a tonsillectomy at a private clinic. The boy, described as healthy prior to the procedure, died after a surgery that reportedly lasted four hours instead of the expected 40 to 50 minutes.

A report from the Institute of Legal Medicine (IML) identified acute hemorrhage and hypovolemic shock as the causes of death, noting the rupture of blood vessels during the operation. The boy's mother, Camila Lira, has raised concerns regarding discrepancies in testimonies and the presence of two resident doctors whose names were allegedly missing from the official surgical records provided to the family.

Lira is questioning the circumstances of the post-operative care and the decision by authorities not to indict those involved following the conclusion of the police inquiry.
