Public health milestones and safety measures reported in Brazil

The Adão Pereira Nunes Municipalized Hospital (HMAPN) in Rio de Janeiro recorded a historic high in surgical procedures during July, completing 2,792 surgeries. This milestone represents an average of 90 procedures per day. Director-General Thiago Resende attributed this surge to a structural overhaul that increased bed capacity from 307 to 429 and expanded surgical rooms from 9 to 12.

In Natal, the Municipal Health Secretariat has implemented a permanent mental health policy for SUS (Unified Health System) workers. The initiative established five Mental Health Attention Nuclei (NASMT) across the city's sanitary districts. This follows a diagnostic survey where 19.6% of workers reported medical leave due to mental health issues and 45.3% experienced or witnessed harassment or violence.

Additionally, following a shooting near the Mãe Luíza Mixed Health Unit in Natal, patients were successfully transferred to other municipal units. Authorities confirmed that all staff and patients remained unharmed during the incident, and the facility has since returned to normal operations.
