Eusébio woman rescued after 55 years of unpaid labor

A 62-year-old woman has been rescued from conditions characterized as analogous to slavery in Eusébio, in the metropolitan region of Fortaleza. According to the Labor Inspection Audit (AFT) and the Public Ministry of Labor (MPT-CE), the woman worked for 55 years without receiving a salary for three generations of the same family.

The woman arrived at the family residence in 1971 at the age of seven. During her decades of service, she lacked formal education, financial autonomy, and regular payment, performing domestic duties such as cleaning, cooking, and childcare.

A Conduct Adjustment Agreement (TAC) was established between the family and authorities. The agreement includes the regularization of social security, the payment of R$ 50,000 in severance pay distributed in ten installments, and the purchase of a property worth at least R$ 150,000 for her housing. The woman is currently receiving psychosocial support to rebuild her autonomy.
