Natal International Airport expands logistics and reduces carbon emissions

The Natal International Airport and the Port of Natal are undergoing strategic expansions to boost cargo operations and regional logistics. The Foreign Trade and International Relations Commission of FIERN (CORIMEX) recently met with Zurich Airport Brasil representatives to discuss institutional support for connecting industrial companies to the airport to increase import and export volumes.

In parallel to these logistical developments, Zurich Airport Brasil reported a 56% reduction in carbon emissions from its own operations between 2024 and 2025, dropping from 1,668 to 738 tons of CO2 equivalent. This achievement earned the terminal Level 4 of the international Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) certification.

To sustain these environmental goals, the airport is implementing energy efficiency measures, such as systems that provide electricity and climate control to aircraft on the ground to reduce fuel use. Additionally, a R$ 24 million solar photovoltaic plant is under development, with an expected inauguration by the end of 2026 to move the terminal toward energy self-sufficiency.
