Natalius Pigai urges Papua officials to end bribery and respect Indonesian sovereignty
Indonesian Human Rights Minister Natalius Pigai has called for an end to the practice of local officials transporting money to Jakarta to influence government policies. During a meeting with the Central Papua Regional House of Representatives, the Papuan People's Assembly, and community leaders in Nabire, Pigai emphasized that government services in the capital are free and that no state policy can be purchased with money.
Pigai urged regional leaders to abandon corrupt traditions and instead focus on legal advocacy. He stated that while the people of Papua are entitled to demand welfare, justice, and rights through legal channels, demands for independence from Indonesia are not permitted. He encouraged the community to use evidence-based advocacy, utilizing facts and documentation to fight injustice within the framework of the 1945 Constitution.
