Natanael Cano defends corridos tumbados against censorship

Singer Natanael Cano has defended the 'corridos tumbados' genre against government censorship attempts during his new album presentation at the Pepsi Center in Mexico City. Responding to producer Pepe Garza regarding efforts to end the musical movement, Cano stated that the movement would only end when he is killed.

Cano is a pioneer of the genre, which blends traditional regional Mexican sounds with hip-hop metrics. The genre has faced scrutiny due to allegations of apologia for crime. Other artists have faced consequences, such as Junior H, who was fined 33,000 pesos by the Zapopan city council after performing a 'narcocorrido' in Jalisco. Additionally, the group Los Alegres del Barranco faced controversy in April 2025 after projecting images of a former cartel leader during a performance.
