Nate Hochman, a senior aide to U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, is facing scrutiny regarding his past professional conduct. Hochman currently serves as the deputy director of the State Department’s policy planning office and is identified in his email signature as Rubio’s chief speechwriter.

The controversy stems from Hochman’s 2023 tenure with Ron DeSantis’ presidential campaign. Reports from Axios indicated that Hochman created and circulated a video for the campaign featuring the Sonnenrad, or Black Sun, a symbol the Anti-Defamation League associates with white supremacy and neo-Nazi groups. While Hochman disputed the claim that he created the video, he acknowledged reposting it and stated he removed the content after learning its meaning.

Additionally, Hochman has faced criticism for past remarks concerning white nationalist Nick Fuentes. A State Department spokesperson, Tommy Pigott, defended Hochman, describing him as a “trusted and key member of the department” who works to advance the current administration's foreign policy agenda.
