Nate Willems addresses past posts comparing D-Day troops to Antifa

Iowa Attorney General candidate Nate Willems has addressed past social media activity in which he shared posts comparing Antifa to American service members during the D-Day landings. During the summer of 2020, Willems reposted content on X that characterized soldiers storming Omaha Beach and paratroopers as ‘vintage Antifa’ and ‘uniformed antifa.’

In a recent interview on the ‘IowaPodcast,’ Willems stated he did not have a strong recollection of the posts. He defended the underlying sentiment by noting that, like the troops fighting fascism in World War II, he believes in opposing fascists. When questioned about comparing soldiers to a group designated as a domestic terrorist organization by the Trump administration, Willems claimed he had no knowledge of Antifa groups in Iowa and expressed uncertainty regarding the administration’s terrorist designation.
